Herders to Home 2020: Luxury Mongolian Yarn and Fiber

Created by Jon Hetts

From herders to home, our yarns are made with exotic fibers from nomadic, free-range animals on the remote Mongolian plains.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

End of our first week!

Hey everybody,

Thought I'd holler and give some quick words about the campaign! A week in here and we seem to be keeping steady progress and have unlocked most of our stretch goals. Thank you again to all the Backers returning for another season and the new Backers for believing in us!

Stretch Goals

Awesome progress so far reaching 4 colors, and still coming in on our last two for the natural platinum grey yak wool and some select fibers/colors in lace weight. Here's an updated graphic for the extra colors:

This is of course on top of the original colors, which were the natural cream for cashmere, the dark chocolate and milk chocolate yak, and the natural sandstone for the camel. All these colors will be available for selection in Backerkit after the campaign on the survey.

For the copper camel, I was actually able to get a small sample of it dyed so we can see how it looks, since the exact color we chose hasn't been made before in the camel wool. I'll hopefully get my hands on it beginning of next week and will share when I do in the next update!

Fiber Prep

In other news, I've already started making contracts with the cooperatives so we can start getting our fibers together! Due to the abnormally cold start to spring here, herders were brushing their animals later in the season than usual, but we're still on track to get our fiber when we need to. Cashmere and baby camel wool will come in first, and then the baby yak wool in early/mid September. Still hoping to get everything out of Mongolia and on the way to America by the middle of October if all goes smoothly.

Ok that's it for me for now. As always, holler if you have any questions! Thank you again for the support!

Hey everybody!

Thank you all again so much for the support on what I'm sure is going to be another awesome campaign and season. The nerves and stress always boil up a bit before launching each year, but getting going and seeing old names again always ends up being the funnest part. Making it to our goal in just THREE HOURS is more than I could have hoped for. With all the different tastes and wants from everybody, it's so important to be able to hit all of our stretch goals, and then hopefully even more. We're definitely on track for that!

A quick note about the baby yak handspun that was brought up my a couple members in our ravelry group. If you want to guarantee more than 100g of the baby yak for yourself, I opened a couple more reward levels (200g and 400g). I'll monitor these all together as some fill up so we still end up at 100 skeins. Generally I would just tell people to wait for Backerkit to add more, but that will only be an option if all 100 aren't reserved in the campaign.

So yes, awesome start! Thank you all so much again. As always, please feel free to holler with any questions! And yes, obligatory Mongolian critters:
